Almost 100 performers, movies, exhibitions, lectures!
The Finn-Sino Culture, Education & Technology Exchange Association organized the third annual Chinese Culture Festival Aug. 15 - Sept. 7, 2006. Last year's festivities included events in Tampere, Helsinki and Oulu. The festival was the largest event highlighting Chinese culture in the Nordic countries.
The festival started off with a photo exhibition revealing the many faces of Beijing at the Lasipalatsi Film and Media Centre in Helsinki. More traditional painted art works were on display at the Old Library Building in Tampere.A selection of modern Chinese movies were shown at the Andorra theater in Helsinki Aug. 21 - 23. The Chinese blockbusters were next show in Oulu Aug. 25 - 30 and in Tampere at the Niagara movie theater starting from Sept. 1. The director of "The Birthday," Ning Jingwu, and Zhang Jiarui, director of "Huayao Bride in Shangrila," made a special appearance in Tampere.
The festival's main event took place Sept. 2 - 3 at the Old Library Building and its surroundings in Tampere. The event featured interesting lectures by experts from various fields, astounding music and dance performances, Chinese tea tastings, a children's playroom and a Chinatown street fair.
The climax of the festivities were the performances of an entertainment group composed of more than 60 artists. The entertainers astonished audiences with puppet theater pieces, magic acts, and music and dance shows that reflect different aspects of Chinese performing arts. and dance show featuring traditional and modern performances took place at Tampere Hall Sept. 3. This highly talented show troupe performed at the Savoy theater in Helsinki Sept. 4 and 5. Several free performances were also organized at the Esplanadi Boulevard open-air stage during the group's two-day stay in Helsinki.
